Step 1. Leading-in Have a free talk with the students about their growth, 二次备课: For Class 8, teachers can not only ask the students how they learn about the world but also why they learn about the world in that way. Encourage students to speak out the reasons and express their own ideas. How old are you? How tall are you? Do you still remember your height when you first came to this school? What comes into your mind when talking about “growing up”? For me ,it’s “to support the family” What about you? Step2.Presentation 1.The the teacher ask: Do you feel happy to grow up? Do you want to grow up? 2.Get students to do a survey about how many students want to grow up? How many students don’t want to grow up? 3.Get students to guess whether Eddie will choose “grow up” or not grow up? 4.Play the video comic strip. Students watch and and answer the question. Step3. Read and act Read the conversation, boys act as Eddie and girls act as Hobo. Recite the conversation in pairs and act it out. Step4. Presentation 1.Teacher says:Growing up also means that you learn about the world .How do you learn about the world? For example, how do you know there’s a city called Los Angeles? How do you know a terrible earthquake hit Japan in 2011? 2.Ss answer the questions.eg. I learn about the world from my parents and relatives./Internet 3.Play the tape to Ss. Let Ss listen to the conversation between Simon and Millie, then answer some questions. 4.Explain some key expressions and sentences. Allow sb. to do sth. Learn sth. Write : The favourite way to learn about the world in our class is from/through________ because_____. Step6. Read and act Read the conversation, boys act as Simon and girls act as Millie. Recite the conversation in pairs and act it out. Step8.Homework Recite the new words, key sentences and useful expressions. Do the exercises. Recite the two conversations. 教学反思: For good students, they are easy to grasp the main ideas of this lesson, but they have difficulty remembering so many new words and key expressions, especially in making new sentences with them. They need to practise more after class.
