My Perfect Imperfect Life A few years ago, I was standing at the barre (扶手杠) waiting for my adult ballet class when I heard a voice behind me. \"So, do you have this perfect life?\"
My first reaction was to (1) who was being asked such an odd question. Then I remembered there were only two of us in the room. When I turned (2), the other woman was looking straight at me.
I had no idea how to answer it. Was she (3)? Who has a perfect life? Sure, occasionally I did find the perfect dress or the perfect pair of shoes,(4) never would I use that word to describe anything about me or my life. I felt a twinge of guilt for somehow giving her that (5). She watched me. I finally (6) to whisper a quick \"No\".
By then, the teacher had entered the room and turned on the music to start class. With a sigh of(7), I moved my feet into the best position. But as soon as my knees bent for our first pose, I realized my (8) had been disturbed. This woman's words wouldn't (9) echoing in my thoughts.
I wanted to know how she came up with her very mistaken(10). If she knew anything about my life, she never would have had the (11) to ask me that question.
I did my best to do our floor exercises in front of the mirror. For a few moments, I didn't see the usual(12) of my older self attempting to use a beautiful art form to(13) my gracefulness. I only saw the little girl whose father
died when she was two, the child who walked home from elementary school every day to an empty house, who learned to sew her own clothes to (14) money.
Perfect. My life had been far from it.
When those memories (15), I was left with a vision of the woman I had become, the woman(16) by all those things I considered imperfect. I now saw the woman who had learned to be self-reliant, who(17) her family and her friends, who didn't take life for granted. Was that the \"perfect\" this woman had detected?
I still don't know, but I no longer feel (18) or feel like I must keep track of all the difficult times to prove my life isn't (19). If ever again asked whether my life is perfect, I would have a different(20). Because now I see that, despite all its imperfection, it is.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.

A Good Man It's a late Saturday afternoon in early March, and I am sweating in search of the only gift my son wants from Los Angeles: a (21) to the homes of the stars such as Brad Pitt and Jet Li.
A cheerful taxi driver says, \"No problem. Map sellers are everywhere!\" When the taxi stops, a fellow (22) with a thin folded sheet and says: \"Ten dollars.\"
Ten dollars! With absolute (23), I inform him, \"That's too much.\" The map man leaves. I begin walking, certain I'll find a (an) (24) star map soon.
I am (25). There's hardly anybody on the street. There don't seem to be many real stores, just cars and bars. No maps. No stars. Blocks pass. The sun begins to sink. At the
edge of West Hollywood, (26) fellow wanders ahead, selling star maps to some teenage girls.
Ten dollars (27). Forget it. My son will (28).
That night, I call my wife. \"Did you get one of those maps to the stars? He's been talking about (29) else.\"
This (30) is hard to ignore. It's late. At all-night markets: no maps. I
head back to the hotel. Morning is coming. There will be one last (31). After I check out, I take a taxi. But at nine in the morning, map sellers are (32) to be found.
\"You know,\" says the driver, \"The guys with the maps just aren't up yet!\" He's right.
\"Forget it. Let's go to the airport.\"
\"Well,\" says the driver, \"I could (33) you one if you like.\"
Sure. Trust this guy? I might as well throw cash onto the freeway. But exiting the taxi, I (34) my last chance. I hand him $13 and my business card. Three weeks pass. I've (35) on the star map. My son has stopped mentioning it.
Then one afternoon, sticking out from under piles of flyers, there it is: a big white envelope. There is a small note. I can hardly read it, (36) I make out a few phrases - \"forgive (37),\" \"taxi's been down\" and, finally, \"here's map for your son.\" There's no return address. It's signed, \"kind regards, M.\"
I hold the note in my hand, (38) what my son said to me when I got back from Los Angeles.
\"Did you meet any (39), Dad?\" he asked. Now I know what to tell him.
\"Yes, I did. I met a guy named M.\"

I felt gloomy (沮丧的) the other day. The weather had been dark and rainy, and I just didn't feel so (41).
As I was sitting at my desk I (42) it was the birthday of a dear long-time friend - a single middle-aged woman who has devoted the past 30 years to nursing and loves her (43). Knowing that she doesn't have family in town I (44) to give her a call. Sure enough she was on B-shift (45) to work late into the evening and wouldn't have much of a birthday this year. As always, (46), she sounded

When I got home I realized that not only had I cheered up a () friend on her birthday but my own gloomy feelings had also (55). Making her day had made my own!

As I sat motionless on the steps of the pool, watching everyone else swim back and forth, I realized that I had spent most of my life watching others enjoy themselves. After the (65), a though struck me, I had to change (66) the world viewed me. One afternoon, I went to pick up my mother from work. (101), I looked outside the car window, there was a small park (102) I saw a little boy running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy would
then fall to the grass, (103), and without hesitation or without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, (104) nothing happened.
When they fall down, kids don't (105) their falling down as a failure, but(106), they treat it as a learning experience, (107) just another result of outcome. They try and try again (108) they succeed. They haven't associated \"falling down\" with the word \"(109)\" yet, thus they don't know how to feel the state which accompanies failure. So they don't (110). Plus, they probably think to themselves that it's perfectly okay to fall down, and that it's not (111)to do so. In other words, they give themselves(112) to make mistakes, subconsciously.
While I was (113)by the boy's persistence, I was equally touched by the (114) in which he ran. With each attempt, he looked so confident…so natural. His only aim was to run freely and to do it as effectively as he could. He was just being a child - just being himself - being completely in the moment. He was not looking for approval or was not worrying about(115)someone was watching. He wasn't (116)about being judged. He didn't seem to be bothered by(117) that maybe someone would see him fall. No, what (118) to him was to accomplish the task or activity (119) to the best of his ability.
I learned a lot from that (120)and experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in my life.101.

Every year, the fifth graders at Brookstone Elementary went on a field trip to Washington, DC. Terence (121) the exciting trip, and was (122) to go next year.
Terence asked his parents (123) if they would pay for half of the trip if he earned the other half of the money himself. His parents(124). He had almost a year to earn ﹩150. When the (130) weather arrived, Terence knocked on his neighbors' doors to ask if they needed help with (131) work. He helped with mowing (修剪) and weeding gardens. After the summer was over, he earned ﹩75. When the fall arrived, he counted his money and(132)that he still needed ﹩40 for his trip. Soon his mom saw a(n) (133)for a job for him. Earlier this week Sir Elton John expressed (141)about how his young son, Zachary, might be(142)when he goes to school.
He fears he might face bullying because his parents are gay and Britain can still be homophobic. He may be right, though in all the schools I know, children come now(143)every type of family circumstance, and don't think (144)about it.
Nevertheless, the playground can be cruel and adults need to be vigilant. But Elton John's anxiety made me think more generally about (145)our children experience childhood and what we want (146)them from it. Of course, childhood is not a stage in life (147)by our biology but a human convention. This is why we can sometimes get in a muddle about it, especially about the point of transition to adulthood. We send mixed messages when we tell our
children different stories about their level of maturity in relation (148)getting married, casting a vote, taking out a loan, (149)for their country, and so on.
I once had(150)argument with someone(151)passionately believed that the age of criminal responsibility should be raised from ten to 16, even 18. We have to remember,\" she said, \"that these young people are children.\" I was not (152), but all the time I kept hearing some words of my own teenage son, words (153)parents hear at some time, \"Dad, stop treating me like a child. \"At one time getting a job was the rite of passage out of childhood. But now unemployment suspends many young people(1)childhood and the adult world with(155)helpful precedents as to how to live well in this in-between existence. In the gospels, there's just one reference to the childhood of Jesus, though a significant one. It's the story of a 12-year-old who gets taken by his parents to Jerusalem and inadvertently left behind when they and their extended family returned home. Mary and Joseph go looking for Jesus and find him in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking them questions.
I find it striking that in an age(156) children would be valued not so much for their own sakes. as for (157) they would become, productive workers and reproductive mothers, that these busy and learned men take childhood (158), make time for a young boy and pay him attention.
And the child, we are told, grew in wisdom. The story takes us to the heart of what(159)a good childhood. The challenge is about how far we can offer our children this kind of interaction. For parents it's not easy.
If both have to work and work means long journeys, it's not surprising that in
our exhaustion we (160)on the television and computer. But keeping children occupied is not the same as giving them our attention.\"141.

Several months ago, Greece suffered from the refugee (难民) disaster. I hadn't been (181) of the Scale (规模) of it until I actually got to Greece. I(182)as manager of the Oinofyta Camp. This work is like being a(183), And I realized that I had met my(184), which was to take care of them and show them that they were loved and cared about, not(185).
All of the Greek islands are(186). I have a camp that within three or four days could(187)500 people.

Those people were the (191) people in the camp because they had a purpose. We have(192) in America who want to buy these bags now.
Learning to say(193) has been one of the harder things here at the camp; the constant (194)of residents. I was so happy for them when they got their family(195), and so sad because I knew that the(196) of me being able to (197) see them again was pretty slim.
My (198) kids are all asking me the same question now: \"Mom, when are you coming home?\" I don't know. I hope that my legacy (遗赠) here is that the refugees will always remember that I cared about them, that they were special and (199), and that they were worthy of that(200).181.

One day I took a bus with my girlfriend. It was so(201) that we stood for several stops until a vacant seat was (202) for her.
Then a pretty girl rushed towards me,saying,\"Hi,where are you going?\"I was so struck by the stranger that I had a hard time trying to (203) her.Clearly she had taken me (204) somebody else.I returned her greeting with politeness,(205) to give explanation to my girl later.

But I was (211) to search in my memory for someone called Nancy among my neighbors.I was worrying how to explain this to my girlfriend (212)the pretty girl again turned to me,\"Will you give me your cell phone number so that we (213) keep contacts(联系) later?\"I had to submit to her (214). Then the girl got off the bus at the next stop.
A minute later I got a short (215) on my phone-from a stranger. My girlfriend (216) my phone and read the note.It was from the girl, who said,\"Just now,two thieves tried to (217) your pocket.I had to act as an acquaintance to draw your attention.I should have left at the (218) stop but gave up as I noticed these two thieves also(219)to leave at the same stop.Because of the(220) I delayed my departure. Now you'll understand all I have done to you.Wish you luck.\"201.

As my husband, Doug, stood on the busy New York city street to stop a taxi, I tried to protect my daughter from the cold December wind and rain. I
put my head down to kiss her (221)face.
Frustrated and wet, my husband gave up his attempt to hail a taxi. I knew the feeling. Just after her first birthday, we were told our daughter Katie has a (222) brain illness. Since that moment, Doung and I felt like(223) in a marathon race where the finish line kept disappearing. We knew Katie was running out of(224). It had taken months before we finally had a name for the (225), but we were told only a few specialists in the world knew how to(226) it. Now, as we finally found a brilliant doctor to(227) our girl, we were in a strange city in the cold rain.
Just at the moment, a middle-aged woman (228) and said, \"Pardon me? May I offer you a(n) (229)?
Before we could say(230), she continued, \"It's really no(231) for me. Just get in.\"
It was then that I noticed her thick Irish(232), which(233) me up like hot soup. We (234) said, \"Thanks! Roosevelt Hospital, please,\" as we got in her car for the ride.
\"Are you going for the baby?\" she asked us. I nodded my head, holding back my (235).
At the hospital, we (236) her a dozen times for the ride. As the woman hugged me, I noticed her face was(237) with tears. She promised to pray for us before she left.
After three more visits to New York and two more (238) surgeries (手术), Katie is cured. But the voice of the Irish Angel still rang as a constant (239) of a tiny ray of light that appeared in our(240) days.

In Germany, it's normal to wear your own clothes at school, since there are no rules about uniform. So why did a few schoolmates and I spend two days(241) around the school in uniform? In fact, during these two days, a rather(242) event took place: our MUN (Model United Nations) Conference.
It is a conference (243) for students from all German schools who want to see how the United Nations really works. They get an opportunity to (244)a country, maybe one they don't know much about, and (245) debate with other students from different (246)on real problems the world is facing now. The aim is to write a (247) at the end, which will help deal with them. The(248) of our conference was\"Transcend Borders: Discover Peace\", which (249) that the students would be looking at what caused (250) among countries and how to overcome it. \"Transcend\"is just a long (251) for\"cross\". However, the students (252) breaking down not only physical national boundaries, but also those (253) different nationalities. Of course, this included how to help others who are forced to flee their homeland, for the
people(2)all students.
Not only was the conference a(255) of thinking about difficult global problems, but also everyone had to speak in English while using correct debating language too. (256) job!But of course this was a brilliant (257) for everyone there, and after a while, you couldn't even(258)the students weren't speaking in their first language!
I'd really(259)joining in a conference if you get the chance, and sharing your(260). It's the best way to meet new people and to think about how to make the world a better place.241.

People shall always unite as one big family in face of disasters. When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, Reader's Digest wrote about impressive rescues. The spirit of serving can be incredibly (261). Here is a story from Annalysa Longworth, a survivor of Hurricane Maria, in her own (262). \"The total 36 hours of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico was (263) the scariest event we've ever gone through. Our house sits on the north-west coast of Rincon. In the(2), over 100 mph winds changed direction causing a great amount of water flooding our (265). The only place lett dry and safe was our

During our regular afternoon showers, we are glad to(268) rainwater but are quickly reminded of the people living without roofs, and how (269) it must be for them. Our emotions are consistently in a state of (270).
Recently, our good friends told us about a video interview they were doing with Watts of Love, a solar light company. The company generously gave us a headlamp for our personal(271)and a box with 50 headlamps to distribute throughout our town. Rincon was completely blacked out so making a simple walk through a parking lot to our car is (272). We used to rush to get things done before (273), but now I continue daily chores in the dark. What (274) our lives most was being able to share this gift with others. We (275) the lamps house by house to the people in the mountains who needed them most, as even batteries and candles are (276) there. Even though (277)have come slowly, people have been out of work and can't afford to(278)their electric bill. I, ll always be (279) to Watts of Love for allowing us to pay it forward and be witnesses to the smiles that (280) can bring.\"261.
