No history of Wushu in the West African state of Liberia would be complete without mentioning one man. He has devoted his life to Chinese martial arts. As a martial arts lover, Pewee Russian was determined to change his country's perception of Chinese martial arts, seen by many as a violent foreign culture.

Against all difficulties, Russian devoted his life to learning Wushu and by the late 1990s he was becoming an expert. At that time, fewer than five people in the entire country were taking an interest in Wushu, he says. As a boy,

Russian lived with his foster parents, who attempted to distract him from martial arts. He found it \"tiring and challenging,, to keep his mind on Wushu. They told him that learning martial arts was a dead end, but nevertheless he persisted.

When civil war began ravaging the country at the end of 1990, it proved a setback for his Wushu studies. When the war was over, after more than 15 years, Wushu was almost extinct. However, Russian still carried the passion in his heart.

“One of the things that really drew me closer to Chinese martial arts is the discipline, the culture - it makes your mind disciplined. I think Wushu is my calling,\" he says.

In 2010, the Chinese embassy in Monrovia awarded him a short-term study course at the Shaolin Temple. When he returned to his country in 2011, Russian led efforts to establish the Liberia National Wushu Association. He won an international medal on behalf of his country in 2016 at the Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival. Since then, as a master, he has been inspiring others to share his enthusiasm. Russian is now the face of martial arts in Liberia.

However, Russian still regrets failing to attend the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He was the third best martial artist on the African continent that year but lack of finance kept him away from the games.

To make up for this lost opportunity, he is working diligently to train the next generation of champions, ensuring that he keeps the spirit of Wushu alive in the country.

21. What do we know about Pewee Russian?

A. He got a medal in the Beijing Olympics. B. He thought Wushu can help protect his country. C. He is now his country's representative of Wushu. D. He was the third best martial artist in his country.

22. What difficulties did Pewee Russian face when learning Wushu?

A. His foster parents didn't support him. B. Wushu almost disappeared in Africa. C. He lacked money for his Wushu studies. D. His country started a war against another country.23. Which of the following best describes Pewee Russian?

A. Crazy and reliable. C. Persistent and considerate.

B. Generous and hardworking. D. Passionate and determined.

24. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?

A. To spread Chinese culture.

C. To encourage Sino-African relations.

B

B. To introduce a Wushu lover. D. To promote values of martial arts.

In 2019, more than 1. 4 million young people around the globe took part in the School Strikes for Climate Action protests that were largely prompted by a 17-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. The inspirational teenage is far from the first or last young person to fight for a better environmental future.

With the rise of social media in recent years, young people around the globe have easy access to surprising information about how we're currently failing to look after the Earth. Websites such as YouTube provide accessible coverage on ecological matters and links to new scientific information are easily shared between peers. But, it's not just online research that exposes the truth, and it's not a distant threat either. Climate change is around us. Our oceans are 30 percent more acidic(酸性的)due to carbon pollution, an increase of droughts and heatwaves means a loss of crop production and forest is cut down every second.

Of course, just because young people are now readily armed with statistics doesn't mean all adults will eagerly listen to them. Many write off young activists simply due to their age, and others still aren't willing to see the environmental challenges we face, but that doesn't mean a diligence can’t be made.

In fact, there are some advantages to being a young activist. A study on participants aged 16-24 in the UN climate negotiations revealed that adults perceived younger activists as being more trustworthy. Young activists not only aren't smudged (弄脏)by agendas being forced on them, they also have an untainted(未染污的)view of what's going on and, being free from politics, they often say what adults aren't willing to.

So, it seems achieving a carbon neutral world in the future might depend on young determined voices inspiring experienced adults who can make a difference. Preferably, young people wouldn't worry about the environment at all, but our civilization forced them into the conversation when their futures were put at stake, so their voices should be included in the solution.

25. What is the second paragraph mainly about?

A. The influence of social media. B. The truth behind the statistics.

C. The different examples of Climate change effects. D. Young people's easy exposure to climate problems. 26. What do the underlined words “write off\" mean in paragraph 3?

A. Adults speak highly of the young people. B. Adults look down upon the young people.

高三年级英语学科试题 第5页共8页

C. Adults show sympathy to the young people. D. Adults regard young people as unimportant persons. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?

A. Taking a younger approach. C. Speaking out your voices.

c

B. Protecting the globe.

D. Meeting environmental challenges.

TikTok is a fun, silly place. To scroll through(浏览)it is to take in a fantastic amount of people dancing and lip-syncing(对 口 型). There's a video of Cameron Diaz s wine drinking challenge, a very polite kid named Grey, and a clip from Taylor Swift's \"Love Story\" that you'll hear way too much. It's addictive and ridiculous.

But the platform has been in the news lately for reasons relating to privacy and security. What you're hearing in the news may force you to wonder is the app safe to use? The short answer is that it's probably completely fine for most people to be on TikTok, as long as they keep in mind that, just as with other social media apps, it hoovers up data.

Platforms like TikTok and Instagram collect personal information from users with different levels of transparency(透明度),points out Shuman Ghosemajumder, an internet security company. The first level is information that you're clearly aware you're sharing with them. This includes the email or account you used to sign up for the app, and of course the content you actively share on the platform.

The next level is data you may not be aware an app is collecting—such as details like your IP address and information about your device and its operating system. TikTok says in its privacy policy that it is also “scanning and analyzing,” the messages you send over the platform.

Finally, the third category of data collection is the criminal kind which experts search carefully apps to find. But Ghosemajumder says it's extremely difficult for an app like TikTok to hide that. Has TikTok done that? Ghosemajumder says he knows of no evidence that it has.

Let common sense be your guide if you're using an app like TikTok. If you don't want thousands of people to watch you dancing in your living room with your family, then don't upload a video that shows just that. Ultimately, Ghosemajumder doesn't see much daylight between TikTok and its competitors. \"There's no fundamental difference in using TikTok versus using Instagram,\" Ghosemajumder reflects.

28. Which of the following may belong to the third category of data collection?

A. Information about your phone. C. A video of yourself uploaded to TikTok.

B. Military information for government. D. Your message to friends over the platform.

29. What is Ghosenmajumder's attitude to the use of TikTok?

A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Objective. D. Disapproving.

30. Why is Instagram mentioned in the passage?

高三年级英语学科试题 第6页 共8页

A. To show that TikTok is as safe as Instagram. B. To show that TikTok is better than Instagram. C. To show that Instagram is different from TikTok. D. To show that TikTok and Instagram are both popular.

It was my first year of school. I loved school: my old-fashioned kind of teacher, Miss Edna; the way the old wooden floors smelled; and having my own desk that was just my size. There was, however, one problem with school—Mildred.

Daily when I walked the short distance home after school, Mildred would taunt(奚落)me, hit me and scare me.

高三年级英语学科试题 第9页共8页

I was absolutely terrified of her. She had failed first grade and was a year older than me. Mildred didn't have friends, so she seemed to concentrate on making enemies. Because I was one of the smallest children in first grade, she had selected me as her number one enemy.

As I walked home after school, she would continually step on the back of the heels of my shoes and cause the shoes to slide down. Then when I stopped to adjust them, she would slap me hard on the back. As soon as the dismissal bell rang each day, my heart started to pound and I blinked fast so I wouldn’t cry.

Pretty soon my mother figured out something was wrong at school and I finally sobbed out the whole story. \"You can't do anything, mama. You can't. Everyone will think I'm a baby.\"

It was impossible for mother to pick me up after school. She had to work. My father had died a few years earlier. I didn't have any sisters or brothers to watch after me. I couldn't imagine what my mother might do. I was certain there was no answer一no answer at all for a problem this big. 1 just begged not to go to school.

The next morning, my mother said, Marion, I'm going to walk up the hill with you today. I believe we'll see Mildred. \" Mildred walked from way across town to school. She never bothered me on the way to school, only afterward.

Dear Steve,

Glad to hear from you. You asked about how I studied during the Covid-19 outbreak. Now I'm writing to tell you something about it.

To help control the disease spread, our school conducted online courses, which was a better option then. We strictly followed the given schedule and maintain our daily study routine home. However, it still posed a challenge for us. Some teachers struggled to learn how to livestream his classes while some students lacked self-discipline without supervision. Though benefiting from it somehow, I strongly hoped I could return to school, as what I acquire there is more than knowledge.

读后续写 Paragraph 1

Sure enough, just as we got to the top of the hill, we spotted Mildred. \"Hello, Mildred”, Mother said quietly. Mildred stopped. Her hands and face were bright red and the oversized coat hung open with only two buttons. Mother stooped down, rapidly buttoning her coat. “I'm Marion's mother. I need your help, Mildred.” Mildred looked intently at my mother. “Marion doesn't have any sisters. She sort of needs a special friend at school. Would you be her friend?” Mildred chewed on her bottom lip, blinking all the time, and then nodded. “Oh, thank you! I just know you are someone I can depend on. ” Then she hugged Mildred long and hard. I found Marion smiling! I'd never seen her smile before.

We walked up the hill each day after school together, and pretty soon we were talking, laughing and sharing secrets. I started calling her “Mil” , and then others did too, even Miss Edna. She always sat with me at lunch. My mother usually included something in my lunch especially for Mil一even notes of gratitude. Mildred smiled a lot now. She was getting good grades too, and didn't stuff her papers inside her desk anymore. I knew my mother's plan had worked and I've learned that the plan works in all kinds of impossible situations: “Love is patient and love never fails.”

M: No, today is Jeremys day off. He'll be back tomorrow afternoon. And Landon over there has another person ahead of you. Let's see who else is available... Hmm, so it looks like everyone is booked for the next half an hour. Do you want to put your name down and wait here for a bit?

W: Sure. Is there any way I can leave my phone number and have someone call me when there's an opening? I just want to go to the music store across the street.

M: Well, we can't promise anything unless you're here in the waiting area. It gets pretty busy here, as you can see. (Text8)

M: Rosie, I've got something to tell you. W: What is it?

M: Well, I've made a decision. I'm going to leave the hospital. W: Leave? What do you mean?

M: I'm bored with it. I want to do something different.

W: I see. How long have you been in this hospital? For two years?

M: No, I've been here for 6 years, and I've been in Brighton for 7 years. I want a change W: You're leaving Brighton! But why? What are you going to do?

M: I'm going to Africa. I've got a job as a doctor with a volunteer organization. They want me to go to Nigeria.

W: What? You re joking!

M: Look, I didn't tell you before because nothing was certain. But I got a formal offer this morning. Rosie, I will miss you very much, and I don't want to end our relationship. But I want to see the world. You do understand. Don't you? W: Oh, yes, I understand! M: I'm really sorry, Rosie. (Text9)

W: You have made lots of business trips since you worked in our company. What's your favorite means of transport, Jack?

M: Oh, there's no doubt about that, flying. It's the most comfortable and you get treated very well. Your luggage gets taken care of.

W: I can't say I like it. Actually I think the biggest disadvantage in air travel is that your luggage may disappear and get sent off all over the world.

M: Well, not in my experience. Some people may hate the long wait, looking at the board and waiting for their flight. But I'm a fan. What's your favorite means of transport?

W: Well, I used to like the bus. It's flexible and cheap. But it is not always a reliable form of transport. Now I'm a great fan of rail travel. I've got a rail card and it gets me everywhere I want to go. M: But it's slow.

W: Yes, but you'd hardly want to fly for a very short distance. My husband is a believer in exercise. He cycles everywhere. I know sometimes he's very tired but he's pretty ^t. M: I was just going to say how cold he'd get. And wet and windy as well. (Text10)

M: Good afternoon. Welcome to this tour of Davidson College. As a senior here, I could tell you all about my experiences in classrooms and labs. But I think it would be most valuable to talk about the campus as we walk around outside to get an overall feel of this amazing place. Over to my left is the library, and besides being the main place where students do research for papers, it's also where a lot of students hang out between classes. There are computers and comfortable chairs everywhere, and on each floor, there are areas that do not require you to be quiet. Perhaps this is why our students like it so much! Down the road to my right is the student centre, which is where students can buy coffee, snacks, and official Davidson College clothing. The student centre is open until 10: 00 pm on school nights and until 2: 00 am on weekend nights. Carson Gym, which is named after one of Davidson's most famous professors, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can play almost every sport you can imagine there, and there are health classes like yoga and group dance every day except Wednesday. The best part about the gym is the cost: students pay a yearly fee of 50, and they get to use the facilities as much as they want. All right, we' re coming up to the stadium now...
