A

In America, if a teacher asks you a question, but you do not understand it, you should put up your hand and ask the teacher to repeat it. If you do not know the answer, it is all right to tell the teacher that you do not know. Then he or she knows what you need to learn. There is no excuse for not doing your homework. If you can’t go to school, you should call your teacher or classmate for the homework. You must go to school on a test day. If you are seriously ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. A serious illness is the only reason for missing a test. It is not polite to be late for class. If you have to come to school late or leaving during a class, be sure to do it quietly. There is no need to ask for the teacher’s permission.

It’s not polite to go into the teacher’s office with a close door without knocking first. Knocking first, and then wait to be let in. For a student, it is not polite to wear a hat in the classroom. I am Bruce. My parents divorced(离婚)in 1993, when I was only four. After that, my mother took care of me. I grew up to be an outgoing person. I could find friends anywhere I went. When I met someone in a(n) new place, we became friends quickly.

But some of my friends had had habits, like smoking or drinking. I didn’t do things like that. They laughed at me. This made me angry with them and myself. As a teenager I thought I did not have a true friend. I tried to do only good things, though sometimes I didn’t do them very well.

Then my life began to change when I went to university in 2007. Now I have some really good friends. I can feel their love and care. They are the kind of friends most people can only dream about. They are very polite people. When I have problems, they always help me out. For me, there are no better friends in the world than them.

Linda and I made plans to go to a movie on Saturday. However, then she said her mother

wouldn’t let her go on that day because they were going out together. So I said, “Well, we can go on another day.” And then he said, “Why don’t we go on Friday?” and I said, “OK.” However, later my mother said we were going to be busy on Friday, so I told Linda that I couldn’t go and we had to change the date. She was unhappy and said, “OK. I would rather go with my other friends.” I got really angry because she thought it was my fault. It was because of her that we first had to change the date. “Am I wrong?” I asked myself.

One day, I told my problem to my father. He said I shouldn’t have got angry about that little thing. He asked me to take it easy. He said, “Friends often argue about where to have a walk, when to watch a movie, what one of them said, and so on. But dear, it’s really common between friends. Most of the time, it’s just because of little things that don’t really matter. Friends argue because they care about each other.”

Sometimes you just happen to have small fights with your friends, but that doesn’t mean you’re not friends any more, right? ( )1. A. while B. because C. although D. after ( )2. Paloma sat in the big room. Everyone in the hall clapped for the boy on the stage. Her brother Ramon sat down at the piano. “I always have to go to Ramon’s baseball games. Now I have to hear him play that piano. I am tired of hearing that piano!” Paloma said to herself.

Ramon stopped playing the piano. His parents clapped for him, but Paloma did not clap.

The next day at school, Paloma’s teacher told the students that school would pick some children to dance at Fiesta. Paloma did not think she would be picked to dance. But she wanted to try.

The next day Paloma saw her name on the list. She could not wait to go home and tell her mother that she was going to dance. It was now Palmo’s turn to be on the stage.

It was the day of the dance. Paloma and the other dancers stepped onto the stage. She saw all the people watching her. She saw her parents and Ramon sitting up close. Then Pamoma smiled for her dad’s camera. The dance started.
