1. One winter morning at about seven， Mr. Harry came back from his office， hungry and cold. He had stayed up（熬夜）in his office all the night.?摇When he opened the door， he was very surprised to find his nurse（保姆）was tied（［tai］系，打结） on the bed.

2. He hurried to untied（解开）the rope around the nurse（绳索）and asked what had happened.

She said with tears， “About nine o’clock last night， a man suddenly broke into the house. He tied me on the bed and robbed（抢夺）all the money.”

3. Mr. Harry called the detective Jerry immediately for help. A few minutes later， Jerry arrived. He found everything in the drawers（抽屉）was pulled out on the floor. Though it was snowing outside， the room was very warm because thekettle（壶）on the fire was boiling （沸腾）. 4. After he heard the nurse’s story， he suddenly said to her， “You are telling a lie.” The nurse’s face turned red. She drooped（垂下）her head and had nothing to say.
