1.Cost of Construction of Geothermal Energyis lower thanTidal Power.
Tidal energy development is hampered by high upfront costs. One study noted that ocean power generation can cost more than $400 per MWH compared to other renewable energy sources, for example, geothermal energy, that cost about $150 per MWH. [1].
2.Geothermal Power Creates More Jobs than Tidal Energy and Spurs Economic Growth.
Can you imagine how many jobs would be created if 100,000 MW of geothermal energy was constructed?
3.Geothermal is Environmentally Friendly. This form of energy is environmental friendly. This is due to the fact that it is produced by the earth undergrounds. However, tidal energy influences aquatic life adversely and can disrupt migration of fish[2].
4.Cost of ExploitingGeothermal Power Plant is More Effective than Tidal Power Plant.
Technology for exploiting tidal energy is still not cost effective and more technological advancements are required to make it commercially viable. 5.Geothermal is a Versatile Energy Resource.
Geothermal is available everywhere in various forms. Geothermal power production, as discussed previously,
provides reliable base-load power to the electricity grid and geothermal heat pumps are heating and cooling homes and businesses in all 50 U.S. states, and around the world. Geothermal energy can also be used for agricultural purposes in greenhouses, to de-ice sidewalks, for food dehydration, and in spas, among other applications[3][4].
Tidal Energy is better than Geothermal Energy
1.Tidal Energy Plants have Long Lifespans. While the initial cost of building tidal energy plants is high, the plants are expected to run for a very long time which will make them more cost-effective in the long run. Because the force behind tidal energy comes from the pull of the moon, it is an inexhaustible energy source. As long as the moon continues to orbit the earth, there will be energy in the tides.Geothermal energy can rely on exposure to extreme temperature and pressure and the energy source could die out unexpectedly[5].
2.Effective at Low Speeds.
Water has extremely high density, which makes it possible to generate electricity at low speeds. Calculations show that power can be generated even at 1m/s (equivalent to a little over 3ft/s.
3.Long Lifespans.
We have no reason to believe that tidal power plants are not long lived. This ultimately reduces the cost these power plants can sell their electricity, making tidal energy more cost-competitive.
The tidal barrage power plant La Rance was opened already in 1966 and still generates large amounts of electricity[6].
4.Although Cost of Construction of Tidal Power is higher than Geothermal Energy but Maintenance Costs are relatively low.
It is also a cheap energy source. After the initial investment is paid off, the cost of generating electricity is very low. Tidal energy has a high energy density, meaning that the tides store a larger amount of energy than most other forms of renewable energy, such as the wind. 5.Predictable.
Tidal currents are highly predictable. High and low tide develop with well-known cycles,
making it easier to construct the system with right dimensions, since we already know what kind of powers the equipment will be exposed to.
Because of this, even though the turbines that are being used (tidal stream generators that is) are very similar to wind turbines, both the physical size and the installed capacity has entirely other limitations[7].
