Cooling of the specimens to (23 ± 2) °C, which is necessary for the second weighing procedure, shall be performed in a desiccator. 6.3 Melting temperature If the DSC method is chosen to identify the melting temperature, the following procedure shall be applied: Test equipment such as the DSC 821 from Mettler Toledo can be used. A finished part section with as large a plane contact surface as possible and a mass of approximately 5 mg to 10 mg shall serve as the specimen. Testing parameters: The specimen is heated from +50 °C to +280 °C at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. The examination is carried out in normal atmosphere. 6.4 Water absorption At least two bearing parts shall be weighed in as-received condition with an accuracy of 0.01 g and subsequently aged for (48 ± 2) h in deionized water at (23 ± 2) °C. After the water aging is completed, water adhering to the specimens shall be removed with a compressed air jet that is not excessively strong. This is followed by reweighing. 6.5 Behavior in transmission oil At least two vacuum-dried bearing parts or bearing part sections shall be weighed with an accuracy of 0.01 g and subsequently aged for (48 ± 2) h in hot transmission oil according to TL 521 45 at (120 ± 1) °C. The visual evaluation, reweighing and hardness measurement shall be performed after the specimens have been removed from the test fluid, cooled to (23 ± 2) °C and cleaned. The cleaning (removal of test medium adhering to the specimens) may only be performed by wiping, e.g., with a cotton cloth. The use of a solvent is not permitted. If the component drawing requires resistance to a defined transmission oil, the above-described aging shall be performed in the medium specified in the drawing for at least 1,000 hours.
