A Wonderful Fall Field Trip

Last Friday was one of the best days ever! Our whole class went on a field trip to Hickory Hill Farm. I was so excited when Mrs. Matthews told us about it a few weeks ago. I love going places with my friends and getting to learn new things outside of the classroom. Field trips are the best!

We had to get to school extra early that morning since the bus was leaving at 8:30 am sharp. My mom packed me a super yummy lunch with a turkey sandwich, apple slices, crackers, and even a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. I carefully put it in my Paw Patrol lunchbox and double checked that I had my backpack with my water bottle. I didn't want to forget anything!

When I got to school, I saw the big yellow bus waiting for us. All my classmates were running around feeling hyper and ready for adventure. Mrs. Matthews did a great job getting us organized into a line to board the bus. I made sure to get a window seat so I could look out at all the pretty fall trees and colors during our ride.

The farm was about an hour away from our town. On the bus ride there, we sang songs, told jokes, and played fun road trip

games together. Before we knew it, we had arrived! As soon as we got off the bus, we could smell the crisp autumn air and see the beautiful red, yellow, and orange leaves everywhere. This was going to be an awesome day.

First up was a tour around the farm led by a nice farmer named John. He showed us where all the crops were grown like pumpkins, squash, corn, and apples. He let us go into the big barn and see all the farm animals too! There were cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and even a couple of friendly goats. One of the goats started licking my hand when I pet it. It was so funny and tickled a lot!

After the tour, we went on a long hiking trail through the woods surrounding the farm. The trees looked like they were on fire with all their bright fall colors. We even saw a little creek that we carefully crossed over by walking across some stepping stones. Sarah from my class slipped a little on one of the rocks but didn't get too muddy. We all had a good laugh about that! When we got back from the hike, the awesome farmers had a picnic all set up for us on some tables outside. We all raced over and quickly ate our lunches because we were so hungry from exploring. I'm glad my mom packed me a filling meal because I was a hungry beast after all that walking.

Then came the funnest part...it was pumpkin picking time We each got to go out into the huge pumpkin patch and find our very own pumpkin to take home. There were so many to choose from in all shapes and sizes. After lots of looking around, I decided on a medium-sized bright orange one. It was perfectly round and plump. I'm going to carve the coolest jack-o-lantern out of it!

On the way back to the bus, we made one last stop at the farm gift shop. They had all kinds of neat stuff like jars of homemade jams and honey, cute fall decorations, and the yummiest freshly baked goods. I spent my allowance money to get a couple of crispy apple cider donuts for me and my little brother to share. He's going to be so jealous when I tell him all about this amazing field trip!

The bus ride back to school seemed to go by way faster than the ride there. We were all a bit tuckered out from the busy day of activities. I could hardly keep my eyes open on the way home. As soon as I got in the car with my mom, I ended up passing out for a little nap. I was pooped!

This field trip day was seriously so incredibly fun from start to finish. We got to learn all about farming and harvesting, see cute animals, explore nature, and make so many great memories.

Trips like this are why I love elementary school. I can't wait for the next fun adventure!
